Project Challenge
The app Crest Industries currently used was Handshake and during the kick-off of this project, Handshake became acquired by Spotify and announced it would be discontinued at the end of the year. This put Crest Industries in a precarious position as their sales force was putting in 70% of their total orders via the Handshake app.
Project Solutions + Recommendations
Convenient Homescreen
Any task the sales rep needs to complete within the app, the first step is always to select a customer first. By making the Home screen the address book, this eliminates time spent tapping around on anything else in the app to get to this address book. Sales reps can find a customer by entering in the customer name within the search, by selecting a letter from the persistent index bar or by scrolling.
Sales reps can easily start a new order at any time by clicking the “Start Order” CTA that is repeated throughout the customer detail screens.

Organized Orders
Orders are split into 4 groups that can easily be viewed by a simple tabbed section in the customer profile. Defaulting the tabs to show “Drafts” first, allows sales reps less taps to pick back up where they left off with an order.

Multiple Ways to Add Products to Orders
On the “Start Order” screen, a sales rep is able to begin adding products to a customer order in various ways: entering a search, scanning a barcode, clicking “view categories” as an entry point into the product catalog, or using the quick order where they can add multiple products to their order from this single screen.

Price Flexibility
Sales reps can manually change the price of each individual product, or apply a discount to the full order.

What I Enjoyed About This Project
Changing my usual mindset
I had to change my usual thought processes and get inside the mind of an in-house sales rep using a tablet to create customer orders instead of a customer shopping on a website for products for their business.
