King’s Hawaiian is a Los Angeles-based family-owned and operated bakery, widely known for its Hawaiian bread. King’s Hawaiian needed a new eCommerce website with a fresh look and an enhanced recipe section. Their recipes are a major marketing strategy for the brand, and the company often partners with celebrity chefs to create them.

My Involvement

Improved the user experience by consolidating content and products from three separate websites into a single, cohesive platform. As part of this enhancement, I designed an intuitive experience that allows users to easily discover recipes and purchase the necessary ingredients directly from the recipe page.

Problem
King’s Hawaiian had two websites in existence for their brand, a corporate CMS site and a store site with no clear movement between the two. This was confusing for their customers and not easily maintainable by King’s Hawaiian team members.

Solution
Migrate and consolidate the two websites to BigCommerce to provide a cohesive experience for visitors. The new site is now easy to update by using a BigCommerce extension with a back-end drag and drop editor so team members do not need coding knowledge to make edits.

Solution
Though we cannot control King’s Hawaiian stock, providing customers with information and providing them the option to stay informed is a good option. This was achieved by providing lead times, an option for customers to receive back in stock notifications and to find the product in a store near them.

Set up logic to split the shopping cart based on items in the basket. Ship the frozen products overnight, while sending the others through regular delivery.

What was unique about this project?

The recipe section, one of the most popular areas of the website and a key component of the brand’s marketing strategy, was previously just a static content page with limited functionality and difficult management. Despite the brand’s collaborations with celebrity chefs, the user experience did not reflect the value of this content. I redesigned the section to be dynamic and user-friendly by organizing recipes into easily browsable categories and enabling users to purchase ingredients directly from each recipe page. This redesign led to a 40% increase in engagement with recipe content.
